Difference between Indians living in India and US

Last Nov(2007) I visited India for a month vacation. We had so much fun with friends and family. We were right there for Diwali. Had lot of fun. Wherever I go they ask me the same question: What is the difference between living in India and US. For the first one week I was not able to answer. But after noticing the people in Chennai the only difference I could see is we being in US we try to talk in our mother tongue as much as possible and try to bring the same Indian festive mood during Indian festivals. Mingle more with Indian friends to feel at home. Go to the Indian Independence day function without fail because that's the only day we get to sing the Indian National anthem and wave Indian flag. We put our kids in classical dancing & singing class to retain our culture. In India people are already at home. They eat Dominos and KFC. Shop at city mall where you get all the imported stuffs. You wont believe I spent Rs. 100 over one lip guard in the city mall!!!!I was taken ab...

My contact lens story

Hi People, Some fun time: I have a bad eyesight and I use glasses from the age of 13. At the age of 18(2nd year of college) I got my first pair of contact lenses. by the end of 3rd year everybody almost forgot that I use contact lenses. Its fun to wear contact lenses. It increases the cosmetic value...but not without funny incidence like these... I used to stay in Hostel during my college days. One Sunday we were about to go to the mess which is just one floor below us. I was searching for my glasses and could not find it. I thought, "What the heck, I am just going a floor below to have food". And did not wear my glasses. One of my junior wanted to make a phone call to her parents and since our hostel phone was out of order she wanted to use the phone booth outside our college campus. She asked me to accompany her. I warned her that I am not wearing glasses nor contact lenses. In spite of that she convinced me to go with her. On our way back, my friend who lives in the same c...

Comming to USA

The "United States of America" is most Indian's dream destination. We Indians have a craze to come to America. To live in pollution free land, Traffic free land, noise free land, to see the beauty of this land, friendly and helping people, to earn in Dollars and for a over all better life style. Leaving our family, friends, home and homeland behind.... America is fun, What people back in India see are the pictures we send to them of how much fun we have here. Monthly get-to-gathers with friends, Trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas, National parks, Sea world, Rafting, skiing, hiking the beautiful mountains, and what not? What we forget to share is how we waited to get a Social Security Number(SSN) for 3 weeks. And nobody will sell you even a cell phone if you don't have a SSN. You have just stepped in the soil of US and obviously the credit history is NIL. For those who don't know what credit history is: Credit history is how much a person have spent in US and how much ...

My Cooking

I hold a bachelors degree in Engineering from Madras university. Majored in Computer science. I always had a "Who cares" attitude for cooking. It all started when I got engaged. Two months before my marriage my mom thought me the basics of cooking. Talking about my mom. She is an awesome cook. "The best", I will say. Back in my engagement days, I wanted to impress my fiancée and tried few dishes for his birthday and luckily it came out well. After a week I invited one of my close friend and her mom over for lunch. My friend and I cooked Mushroom fried rice and Gobi Manchurian for the first time in our lives for our moms. I and my friend totally enjoyed the whole time we were in the kitchen. I was so surprised to know how much I love to cook. Once I got married I quit my job and became a homemaker. Dont ask me if I can ...
