Comming to USA

The "United States of America" is most Indian's dream destination.

We Indians have a craze to come to America. To live in pollution free land, Traffic free land, noise free land, to see the beauty of this land, friendly and helping people, to earn in Dollars and for a over all better life style. Leaving our family, friends, home and homeland behind....

America is fun,

What people back in India see are the pictures we send to them of how much fun we have here. Monthly get-to-gathers with friends, Trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas, National parks, Sea world, Rafting, skiing, hiking the beautiful mountains, and what not?

What we forget to share is how we waited to get a Social Security Number(SSN) for 3 weeks. And nobody will sell you even a cell phone if you don't have a SSN. You have just stepped in the soil of US and obviously the credit history is NIL.

For those who don't know what credit history is: Credit history is how much a person have spent in US and how much that person has repaid debt, credit card,... all money transaction in US. The Americans have track of all these stuffs.

The cycle goes like this: No credit history, No reputed company will give you a credit card. If you don't have a credit card, there is no credit history. Nobody tell you it takes 2 yrs to build a reputed credit history.

We forget to tell that we left back our spacious 3/4 bedroom house in India to stay in a 1/2 bed room apartment where you don't even know who lives next door.

We forget to tell them that although its not difficult but its not fun either to start a family right from scratch in a new land.

We forget to to tell them we always fear that we may get deported anytime for this is not our MOTHERLAND.

All these things aside...when we speak of America, why didn't we Indians adapt the SSN system from America, when we can learn their dating culture?

Why didn't we Indians learn to be punctual like the Americans when we can adapt clothing style from them?

Why didn't we learn to keep our streets clean when we can pick up their food habits and slangs?

So sad that we adapted all the stuffs which are convenient for us and keep blaming the western culture.

I really do not know. I had visited USA twice - Los Angeles, Washington, New york and Detroit. I find the culture is different; their attitude is different. On both the occasions, when I had some difficulties with directions, it was not the Whites but the Blacks who helped me.

Have you read books like "The Street Lawyer" by John Grisham? If what he writes is true, then USA is no way better than India.

Aravind Sir,

I think I never spoke about the color of the skin. It will be great if you can refer as African Americans instead of mentioning the color. Its considered offensive to mention people with reference on color.

Yes sir, I have read 'Street Lawyer' by John Grisham. Yes, there are homeless in US too. Only difference is, in US they are very less when compare to India. May be max 15%(which is considered high) of the American's are in poverty. I guess in India its almost 49%

True their culture is different than ours. I believe every place has its own culture.
