Difference between Indians living in India and US

Last Nov(2007) I visited India for a month vacation. We had so much fun with friends and family. We were right there for Diwali. Had lot of fun. Wherever I go they ask me the same question: What is the difference between living in India and US. For the first one week I was not able to answer.

But after noticing the people in Chennai the only difference I could see is we being in US we try to talk in our mother tongue as much as possible and try to bring the same Indian festive mood during Indian festivals. Mingle more with Indian friends to feel at home. Go to the Indian Independence day function without fail because that's the only day we get to sing the Indian National anthem and wave Indian flag. We put our kids in classical dancing & singing class to retain our culture.

In India people are already at home. They eat Dominos and KFC. Shop at city mall where you get all the imported stuffs. You wont believe I spent Rs. 100 over one lip guard in the city mall!!!!I was taken aback when I paid the bill. They wear western cloths which I see in US stores. Use products from US. All my cousins kids speak only English. Whichever mall we go the kids speak only in English!!!!!!!

Was Chennai always like this or has it changed in the past 2 yrs? I really don't have the answer. But this is the major difference I saw between living in Chennai and US:

Indians living in US try to be as close as possible to India

And

Indians in India are trying to live as close as possible to America.
